A new Dataverse for Teams environment is established for the chosen team when you develop an app in Teams for the first time using the Power Apps or when you install an app created using Power Apps for the first time from the app catalog.

You get to decide which team will maintain, modify, and distribute the app. Additionally, Each team is allowed one Dataverse for Teams environment; from that environment, all data apps developed using the Power Apps inside a team are accessible.

The fundamental flow when creating power apps for teams is as follows:

Introducing Dataverse for Teams

There should be a low-code data platform integrated with Microsoft Teams that supports creating low-code and no-code applications, processes, and chatbots for teams. A portion of the data platform’s (Dataverse) capabilities that power dynamic 365 & Power Platform provides diverse data types and relational data storage with enterprise capabilities. Customers of Microsoft Teams receive this feature at no additional license cost (included as part of Office license). There is also Support for a maximum of 1 million records or 2 GB of storage per team. You can create a 1 Teams environment for free for every 20 licenses if you have an essential M365 subscription (E1, E3, E5, etc.). Also, an Available upgrade to the full Dataverse option is provided. 

Dataverse for Teams- Security

This adheres to the Owners, Members, and Guests (OMG) protocol. Owners can make apps and have complete access to the Tables. And can restrict/configure member security at the table, row, or field level. Members can make apps and have full access to the tables. Whereas, the Guests cannot develop apps and can only access their records. Colleague app sharing; extensive app distribution for teams within Dataverse. You are also provided with an Option to “Share with Colleague.” You can choose which app to share with users outside of MS Teams, and permissions can also be set for coworkers at the table level. Sharing with colleagues supports a maximum of 1000 people in the security group.

Dataverse for Teams features

The features include, numerous applications per team, Easy deployment of apps to a team’s tab by clicking a single button. Upon entering the app, a hero layout with a gallery and associated form control appears. You also get, Multiple Dataverse for Teams templates are available for a quick start with ready-to-use solutions. Export & import solutions between Teams.


Difference between PowerApps and PowerApps in Teams.

Considerations PowerApps Power Apps in Teams
Studio -For creating PowerApps, you need to go https://maker.powerapps.com





-Apps created will be displayed in the list of apps in make.powerapps.com.

For creating Power Apps for teams, you need to install the Power Apps App for Microsoft Teams and go to the Power Apps interface inside teams via the App.


Apps created in Teams are not displayed in the list of apps in make.powerapps.com or Power Apps mobile app

Dataverse environment When you create an app, No Dataverse environment is created by default. When you create an app in Teams with the Power Apps app for the first time or install an app created with Power Apps from the app catalog for the first time, a new Dataverse for Teams environment is created for the selected team. 


Storage Capacity No specified limit on rows (having 4 TB of storage or more) in Dataverse.





It creates a backend database called Dataverse for teams, and that database can store up to 1 M records, and it has 2 GB of storage per team.


The 2 GB storage limit can’t be extended further. Should more storage be needed, consider upgrading environments to Dataverse.

Security App will be shared only with those users to whom you want to share.



The app is by default, shared with Owners, Members, and guests in that team.



Create/Edit App -Only the owner and co-owner can modify the app.



-The user will not be able to edit the app.

The owner and members of the team can create/modify the app.


-Guest will not be able to edit the app.

Scope App can be used in web browsers, mobiles, Tab, and Teams. The app will be used in Teams context only.
Model-driven app Model-driven app can be created Model-driven app cannot be created.

Microsoft 365 subscriptions with Microsoft Power Platform and Microsoft Teams capabilities


-No need of a premium license to use Dataverse for Teams.

Apps in Teams If we want to use traditional apps in MS Teams, then we can embed it to MS Teams. No need to embed apps to Teams. Automatically it will be available in MS Teams.
